A review of the shop windows of 2022

At the end of the year the evaluation lists come out: the best books, the most influential characters, the must-see series, the trends that have marked each season, the new fashionable words that we incorporate into the dictionary… At Gratacós we carry out our particular revival exhibiting the shop windows that have been created at the entrance of our space in Barcelona. In fact, it is nothing new that we bet on creating windows that attract attention. We have always done it and each window represents a new visual letter of presentation because it speaks of who we are and what we do in a creative, spontaneous and current way, using new languages of expression that go beyond fashion.

During this year of return to “neo normality” we have dressed our mannequins with spectacular fabrics from the new season, but we have also had the support of the students of the design schools we collaborate with, the creativity of brands made in Barcelona and some artists linked to Gratacós . All of them have put their grain of sand to build new windows that create that attraction effect to those who come to our physical store. We review them below:

February 2022. Echoes of spring

Winter was short-lived in 2022 and the high temperatures, unusual in February, were unknowingly a foretaste of what would come next and would remain the usual trend throughout 2022, one of the warmest years on record. In the traditionally coldest month of the calendar, we took a look at our shop window betting on the incipient spring that was already rearing its head. The first green shoots, the white and pink flowers of the almond trees and, in general, a new awakening of the flora that we express through taffetas (Picasso) and colour in its softest tones.

March 2022. An arty twist

In March there was an artistic turn towards fashion illustration with the identifiable stroke of Joel Miñana, where his colourful mannequins were the absolute protagonists of the window. Using coloured pencils, markers and geometric lines, Joel interpreted some of the key fabrics of the season in an arty key . This contemporary vision was complemented with cuts from vintage dresses, fabrics from other seasons, and classic drawings that review the history of Gratacós, offering two visions that define our company: tradition with modernity.

April 2022. A book to remember

In the month dedicated to literary culture, we wanted to do our part by paying tribute to a specific book: ‘Nobody knows’ (Planeta, 2022) by Tony Gratacós . A historical thriller about some of the mysteries of the first circumnavigation of the world. The author gives a twist to the figure of the navigator Juan Sebastián Elcano, one of the few survivors of the Magellan expedition in an ambitious story that immerses us in one of the most splendid and fascinating periods in the history of Spain and that hides a secret that has taken five hundred years to come to light. The shop window could not miss some signed copies, roses and a mannequin with an imperishable fabric, the Gingham linen check that is renewed every year without losing its classic essence.

May 2022. The brides of the year

The bridal showcase took place in May this time, making visible the work of the last two winners of the contest IED Barcelona that the school organizes every year through their postgraduate course in Bridal Gown Design. On this occasion, the moulages by Myrian Medina, winner of 2022 and Nicole Claux , winner of 2021. Two wedding dresses, one made of georgette (Danubio) and the other made with mikado on the bodice and sequin embroidery on the tail of the skirt. The fabrics provided by Gratacós together with the unique cutting and sewing technique gave way to one of the most special showcases of 2022.

June 2022. Studio 54 returns

In June we welcomed what would be the longest summer of the 21st century, recalling the disco aesthetic of the 70s. Iridescent materials, reflective crystals and subtle shimmering fabrics to kick off a time full of outdoor celebrations. The bling bling aesthetic was achieved by Joplin Atelier, the Barcelona born firm of Laura and Aida Molano who succeed with their glam rock style , creating feminine and opulent looks in volumes, colours and fabrics. The mannequins wore two looks in lime cotton and orange silk satin combined with pieces made with mirror effect appliqués on tulle as a miniskirt.

July and August 2022. Sales time

The sales were the stars of the holiday months and we showed a selection of our best seasonal fabrics in various shades of pink and ecru: jacquards , prints and embroidery mostly. The shop window recreated a feminine room with a certain air of disorder, through a chest of drawers with a vintage spirit , where sumptuous fabrics sprouted from each of the drawers. A tribute to the carefree divas of classic cinema brought to our land.

September 2022. Back to school

In the fashion industry, the year traditionally begins in September, coinciding with the change of season, the new catwalk calendar and the most powerful magazines in the world invest in million-dollar covers to compete in sales. This month, the designer Emile Albretch from the ICM school exhibited her latest models through pieces made with different jacquards , knitted with lamé and moiré. The result was an interesting mixing exercise with a colourful result that hooks the new generations.

October and November 2022. Home sweet home

The quintessential autumn months were dedicated to exploring the traditional universe of the home. Sewing, cutting and sewing, leisurely hobbies that require the work of the hands with a dose of creativity, perseverance and patience. From this intimate refuge, the dreams of tomorrow are woven through wonderful fabrics such as wild silk in gold or transparent XXL paillettes.

December 2022. Red Christmas

We say goodbye to the year with a classic tribute to Christmas. Crystal balls that enclose remnants of fantastic fabrics, the traditional nativity scene that reminds us that no matter how times change, there are customs that remain intact over time, and a spectacular mannequin in the centre dressed in red sequins with winter decorations that remind us that winter has already begun, despite being just as atypical as at the beginning of the year. What will 2023 bring us? Regardless of the desires of each one, we await the arrival of new shop windows that will surprise you and invite you to enter our space in Barcelona. Happy New Year!

Bridal trends in pandemic

The bridal sector is in the process of transformation to adapt to the comings and goings imposed by the restrictions of the pandemic and the easing of lockdown phases. The coronavirus crisis has exploded directly and overwhelmingly, affecting all sectors: from restaurants, beauty centres to the textile sector. And for a year now, the world of wedding ceremonies has been stepping on the accelerator to adapt to these precipitous changes.

The data speaks for itself: in 2020 around 125,000 events were postponed, according to data from the Association of Wedding Professionals of Spain (A PBE). Each of these cancellations has led to losses of about 25,000 euros and a total of 2 million jobs that could not be generated. Today, it is very difficult to predict when normality will return in the bridal sector: the pandemic and its consequent economic crisis will again generate uncertainty in 2021, and it is very possible that it will disrupt the calendar for the next two years.

Within the textile sector, our main concern, the absence of new brides and the decrease in the number of guests at weddings, which are currently a lot more smaller and intimate, has led to a reduction in purchases of wedding dresses and also of raw materials, that is, fabrics. Reductions that have also harmed by extension wedding guest outfits and evening wear.

Therefore, given this process of change and adaptation to the current situation, will it modify the traditional aesthetics of the dresses, the way of buying them or the amount of money that the brides invest?

It is not easy to know where the sector will go, but from Gratacós we continue to offer our bridal fabrics to all brides who are committed to getting married in these difficult times. As fabric manufacturers who analyze the large firms and specialized designers, we forecast some trends in dresses for brides of 2021 and 2022.

  • The traditional bridal aesthetic loses strength

The traditional bridal aesthetic is maintained, but loses its steam. This trend is due to two factors: brides, both millennials and the first generation Z, prefer to break with the classic, daring with new silhouettes that go beyond the one-piece dress, such as the tailored jacket, whether it be either with trousers or with a tube skirt. An opportunity to blur the classic conceptions about how a bride should be dressed. On the other hand, the more intimate, private and informal celebrations influence the wardrobe with more relaxed outfits that avoid the rigid and corseted.

In terms of styles, two antagonistic trends converge: the return of minimalism with its elegant simplicity versus overloaded romanticism. The first style involves plain dresses with clean, structured and reusable lines. If the economy in 2021 and 2022 will be more austere, it is consistent that this shall be reflected in wedding dresses. This minimalist trend is also committed to simplicity and comfort through pieces that facilitate movement and can be adapted in multiple contexts. At the other extreme, the romantically inspired dresses with their volumes, overlays, lace and ruffles refuse to disappear. A type of outfit for dreamy brides who want to enjoy their wedding in a memorable tailored dress. These dresses are rich in fabrics with special attention to those that provide greater opulence: tulle, embroidery, ornamental effects, floral applications …

If it is true that, halfway to minimalism and opulence, there are endless proposals that balance the scales with dresses that merge the two trends and go out of their way for the detail that is perceived in the pleats, in the drapes, the details on the shoulders or unexpected openings. Also gaining importance are dresses with volume and wide skirts through patterns which expand at the hem to give them more prominence

In parallel, in recent years ready-to-wear collections have emerged that complement the dress with much more informal and versatile pieces. These can be custom-made or mass-produced. There is also an upward trend in vintage accessories that give a new retro to the bridal look. For autumn and winter weddings, outerwear has found a new source within instability: capes, cardigans, coats in the same fabric as the dress …, as well as various accessories that adorn the bride.

  • Focus on the detail

The detail is what matters. Regardless of the bridal style chosen, there are some trends that have taken hold in recent years. One of them has to do with the sleeves that are taking centre stage in wedding dresses. Long sleeves, puffy sleeves, tightly gathered at the elbows or cuffs, puffed sleeves, and sleeves with very pronounced shoulders are worn like blazers inspired by the 80s.

As for collars and necklines, pronounced cuts coexist with closed ones and overlays gain importance. In turn, the reign of flowers is threatened by a new detail that is gaining presence in more and more bridal designs: feathers. A resource that adds elegance, delicacy and movement to the wedding dress. Finally, something curious we want to mention that we have perceived within the Baroque style: the veil is back in fashion and everything indicates that the trend will continue and increase in the coming years.

  • Trends in fabrics

As textile manufacturers, in Gratacós we have a specific collection , which is renewed every year, so brides can order their own design of dress. In terms of consumer trend, we do see certain changes. Organza is one of our star fabrics if we take into account that the most popular wedding dresses are those with volumes, layers and transparencies. This organza is worked with embroidery, net lace and even 3D flowers. Crepes with rustic touches, wrinkled-effect fabrics and brocades also gain relevance. In fact, there is a growing demand for handicrafts and a return to details such as trimmings and embroidery. At the other extreme, satin fabrics are ideal for plain, lingerie-type dresses.

An aesthetic tour of shop-window displays 2019

If anything has defined us since our beginnings, it is our firm commitment to the windows that decorate the shop we have in Barcelona. We are aware that they are our cover letter, the first visual point of attraction and “conquest” of the customer and represent a unique opportunity for designers’ creativity to flow hand in hand with our seasonal fabrics, creating dreamlike scenarios. Faced with this expectation, who can resist letting the imaginative madness of current fashion designers flow? Moreover, we like them to experiment, surprise and captivate us at first sight. An innovative staging of Gratacós fabrics in combinations that exceed our expectations. Moreover, the more disruptive the shop-front is, the better!

In 2019 we had the support of several artists who left their mark via our shop windows and to close last year, we want to recall them with a small tribute. Do you have any favourite? What did you like most? We review the most prominent:

February 2019. Rainy weather

Rain was the main feature of the most ephemeral month of the calendar in a work signed by Antonio Iglesias. The Barcelona interior designer wrapped the mannequin in a delicate plumeti tulle in pale pink to give it a fragile and nostalgic hue, in contrast to the black umbrellas with polka dot pattern that accompanied the model. A colour contrast with the same common denominator: patchwork.

March 2019. The floral awakening

The beginning of spring marked the theme of a floral showcase that coincided with the presentation of the new fabric season. Antonio Iglesias captured the essence of all this renovation via a shop window in pink tones in which a tulle curtain with inserted petals surrounding the mannequin stood out, dressed in one of the most successful floral crepes from the last collection.

April 2019. Bridal Moulage

April is the month of brides and at Gratacós we reserved this shop-front for one of the winners of the moulage competition among IED Barcelona wedding dress design graduates. A unique opportunity to publicize the work of the new generations in bridal design. In this case it was the student Katia Combatti who developed a spectacular wedding dress with large volumes on the sleeves, following the steps of this unique cutting and sewing technique.

May 2019. Fashion illustrated

When fashion dialogues with other disciplines such as illustration, you can find creatives as fascinating as the one that Joel Miñana prepared in order to showcase the month of flowers. The renowned Catalan illustrator, capable of capturing the essence of fashion moments that escape photography, showed how he wanted the mannequin to be dressed: with textured fabrics contrasted in greenish tones and modern complements. Just take a look at the results!

June 2019. Brain & Beast Essence

Ángel Vilda, designer and most visible face of Brain&Beast transformed the Gratacós shop-front into one of his creative illusions, marked by the criticism and dualities that his rebellious streak loves to play with. There was no lack of elements of popular culture, contrasting colours and a luxury of detail that is part of the unique Brain & Beast universe. Anyone who is familiar with them knows full well what to expect…

September 2019. The Dominican Harajuku Kids

2019 has been the year of take-off for Dominnico. Apart from his collaborations with Rosalia, the young designer from Alicante, in July he won the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Talent award from among the young companies that parade in the EGO of Cibeles. The award-winning ‘Harajuku Kids’ collection, inspired by the histrionic urban tribes of Japan, was made with some of the most special fabrics from the last spring collection. The shop-window reproduced some of the key looks of this surprising creation.

November 2019. Youth Eclecticism

At Gratacós we like to give an opportunity to new talent. That is why our shop-front is also sometimes an experimental support where it is the young talents who set their own limits. Design students from the Institut Català de la Moda (ICM) created an eclectic showcase of some of their most identifying outfits with amazing fabrics from the current autumn-winter 2019/2020 collection. A creation that was both fresh and eclectic.

December 2019. The dazzling angel

The last showcase of the year was sublime, starring a look inspired by the strength and goodness of an angel to express the most glamorous and sophisticated femininity, coinciding as it did with the Christmas festivities. It was conceived by the students of IED Barcelona who created an impressive feminine look in pink tones that empowered and attracted all eyes. An unforgettable showcase!

Explore your festive side!

And the time has come! The time of the party and debauchery. Ornate garments and fabrics with sparkles that shine with their own light for daily celebrations accompanied by long nights that demand a more lavish dress code, where creativity and fantasy work at the service of sophistication. Those festive looks that bring out the best version of oneself because it is already known that the most shining “me” lives at Christmas. An era that us at Gratacós especially like for all its cultural and religious symbolism.

At this time of celebrations we want to show you the most fantasy collection of winter. That where gold and silver are the protagonists of the most sumptuous fabrics that gain in compositional richness, touch and volume. Also it is time to approach other products that explore the fantastical side of fashion through sequins, rhinestones, embroidery and metallic threads, among others.

Gold

Did you know that the gold colour is neither the most loved nor the most hated? And yet it is a tone that has double standards in terms of meaning. In its splendorous side, gold is associated with beauty, triumph, wealth and happiness. It is a symbol of courage and power. On its dark side, this precious metal also has strong links with materialism, vanity and even arrogance. The treasures are golden or the majestic palace of Versailles surrenders to gold, which is associated with luxury in its maximum opulence. In terms of fabrics, we pay homage to gold through pleats, sequins, embroidery and lamés, which create soft golden layers in more colourful or muted tones.

Silver

Silver is the colour that comes from the metal that gives it its name, silver. The first associations to this fashionable tone have to do with wealth, money or success, but also with coldness, greed or arrogance. Like its golden brother, it has an antagonistic connotation. Looking at the positive side of colour, silver is a tone also linked to luxury and partying that is associated with innovation, the future, movement and progress. It is not in vain that silver will dress future trends, avant-garde architecture, technological mechanisms or the most innovative developments. In fabrics, we highlight the inexhaustible sequins that are so successful during the festive season and the metallic sparkles of lame. Also some space-themed fantasy fabric.

Long life to colour

Not all the colour palette linked to partying has to do with metallic tones and the important thing is to choose fabrics that attract light through their fascinating sparkles. This season the games consists in the variety, the key lies in the brightness of the fabric. Thus, in our space the attractive emerald greens coexist, with the femininity of the powdered pinks, the enigmatic mauve and violet and the bet that never fails: the red classic in all its versions. From the vibrant crimson to the elegant maroon. Which one fits you the most?

Beyond our suggestions, we also invite you to enter our space in Barcelona to see the latest novelties and we want to surprise you with our new showcase of festive themes that IED Barcelona students have devised for these very special dates. The heavenly inspiration with an angel as main theme serves as a context to express the most glamorous femininity in a bewitching look in pink tones, which empowers and attracts all eyes. Happy Holidays to all!

Sastreria Moderna revolutionizes the Gratacós shop

We’ve already announced it on social networks and also, some days ago , via the new November shop-window. It’s exactly one week before Gratacós hosts the most revolutionary fashion pop up in Barcelona: it is Sastreria Moderna , a unique initiative that gives a twist to the traditional concept of clothing through local designers who present a capsule collection of clothes and accessories made with different fabrics from the new collection.

In this fifth edition, Sastreria Moderna has invited 13 designers of different styles with a common philosophy: the commitment to conscious and conscientious slow-cooking fashion that emphasizes craftsmanship and detail. What is really interesting about this one-off initiative is that the participating designers make unique clothes and accessories in a special collection of our fabrics and where the customer can try them on site before purchasing.  How should they be worn? This is the magic of Modern Sastreria : they are made exclusively on request and clients can choose a variation of fabric colour or a small modification of the design to their own specification.  Within a fortnight orders can be collected either in our shop or at the client’s chosen address.

The collection has already taken shape

Each designer has made only two or three pieces within their own particular style using our fabrics and together they make up this capsule collection of Modern Sastreria. Each garment has a special, personal quality, a total guarantee that it has been made with great care both with regard to workshop quality fabrics and to those chosen by the designers: velvet, jacquard, lamé, tweed, crepe and even fringes! In this elaborate design feature there will be long dresses, asymmetrical skirts, shirts for boys and girls, wide trousers, jackets, bags, turbans, belts and even a mini -series of necklaces. In total there are almost thirty textile designs to choose from!

The real protagonists

Who are the designers participating in this edition? In total there are 9 clothing designers and they are: KM by LANGE, GIAN, Ana Tichy , Ene de Narcisa, Montse Cañadas, Lucía Rodríguez, Deltravés , Enero and Norima . The 4 accessory designers are Greta Serra (handbags), AndreaViêntëc (turbans), Mireia Fusté (jewelry) and Kimôh (belts). The capsule collection of the designers is accompanied by a series of brands of accessories that share the values of slow fashion and which will take the opportunity to sell their products during the fashion pop up: Becker & Co , Mireia Fustéand Philo K (jewelry) , The Henten Bag (bags and purses), Anna Perich (silk scarves), Eva vs Maria (shoes) and Verbena ( diadems ) and Andrea Viêntëc (turbans).

Do not miss the live show!

The pop up of Sastreria Moderna will be held on November 29 and 30 and Saturday, December 1 in the Gratacós shop. On these three days of sales anything can happen. For example, on Thursday and Saturday (from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm) there will be a live sketching session led by the illustrator Lucy Davis, who will draw small lamina plates for all those interested. On Friday (from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.), the designer Anna Perich will also give a demonstration of art & silk and will paint white silk fabrics and turn them into unique and multi-coloured handkerchiefs.

We hope to see you!

The new generation of bridal design

April is the month traditionally associated with commitment: the new season of celebrations is officially launched; weddings, baptisms and holy communions. International bridal fairs mark this date on the sectors calendar at a commercial and design level. In fact, the Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week 2018, the main global bridal fashion event , is getting ready to situate the Catalan capital from the 23rd to the 29th April,  in the centre of the hurricane of all the trends and developments in the extensive wedding market.

From Gratacós we also do our bit. To begin with, this week we have opened a new window display that we hope will attract future brides. For one more edition, we have collaborated with IED Barcelona to visualize the talent of the new generation of bridal designers through the Postgraduate Course in Design of Bridal Dresses and Ceremony offered by the prestigious school. On this occasion, the window display includes the final projects of three students with a promising future.

Beyond the exhibition of the projects, we have also promoted a new edition of the “ Gratacós Barcelona Scolarship for the Talent “together with IED Barcelona. The winner of this edition is José Bellón who will receive an economic prize of 1,000€ that he will be able to invest in our fabrics so that he can elaborate the new bridal designs for the next season. The award ceremony will take place in Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week next Thursday 26th April , within the calendar of shows and parallel activities of the bridal catwalk. In fact, we recommend that you visit in the village the workshops that the students of the school will do live with our fabrics following the moulage technique.

Finally, we take the opportunity to remind you that we have available in our Barcelona shop the new collection of bridal fabrics corresponding to the season 2019. A well kept selection we have available for all to meet the demands of designers and customers who choose our fabrics to make their wedding outfits. We hope to see you there!

The cosmic diva of Ibone Sologaistoa

THE SHOP-WINDOW

An opera singer in a futuristic key plays impassive, vibrant melodies to the stars facing a wall in mauve tones with the golden letters of Gratacós, which recreates that fantastic and radiant universe created by Ibone Sologaistoa. It is accompanied by a blanket of cotton clouds that surround it floating in this musical dream where aesthetics coexist with art. “Fantasy universes inspire me and I always try to convey them in everything I do”, explains the young designer from Bilbao. This “Queen of the Stars”, which stars in the February showcase, impresses by its ostentatious presence. A voluminous dress in vibrant colours occupies much of the space. Violets, reds and roses in contrasting tones and textures. A long layer of mint green gauze with the zodiacal constellations embroidered in gold envelops the cosmic diva’s attire. “I was looking for this contrast between colours, fabrics and brightness. One thing I was clear about was that I wanted to work with materials that radiate a lot of light, “explains Ibone. She adds: “I conceive of the cosmos as something bright, colourful and magical.”

“I conceive of the cosmos as something brilliant and magical”

Finally, a diadem of stars decorates the short hair of the fictitious singer, with a hairstyle that irrevocably reminds one of Ziggy Stardust, the alter ego of the multifaceted and multidisciplinary, David Bowie. “He was always an important figure for me in terms of an icon, not so much for his music that I discovered later,” says Ibone. For this we must go back to the film ‘Inside the Labyrinth’ where the British composer played Jareth, the mysterious King of the Goblins. “I am fascinated by that mystical and extravagant aesthetic that the character has, that despite his being bad, he manages to hook us with his power of persuasion,” she concludes.

ABOUT IBONE SOLOGAISTOA …

Ibone Sologaistoa is a dreamer by nature and quickly spoken. Born in Bilbao, she moved to Barcelona 7 years ago to continue experimenting in the world of illustration and then in fashion design. Another of her passions that she is now perfecting in the Guerrero School. It was precisely in the activities promoted by the centre where she came across the inspiring talks by the Designers Fashion Experiences team in which Gratacós participates. And from there, she got to know the design contest organized by their information initiative. “I had never won anything, but my philosophy is ‘make plenty of noise’ so that they get to know you,” explains the artist who conceives of fashion as an extension of her own essence: “My drawings and my designs always connect with this bizarre and ostentatious universe that I so adore.

“My designs connect with a bizarre universe that I adore”

The design ‘Queen of the Stars’ was chosen for its originality and colour by the members of the jury formed by the designers Alejandro Resta, Celia Vela and Oscar Léon, participants in some of the presentations of Designers Fashion Experiences. After appearing at Autobeltran, Ibone Sologaistoa’s creation will be located throughout the month at Gratacós. “It is written in the stars”, says the message embroidered on the cosmic diva’s cloak. So be it!

A Christmas in pink

The Christmas holidays are just around the corner and from Gratacós we are launching the last showcase of 2017, precisely in homage to these festive days of calm, peace and family meditation.  Did you imagine that it would be something classical?  If so, you were wrong because the last showcase of the year is romantic, but unconventional, like the creator who signs it: the designer Juan Pedro López.

“I wanted to do something a touch naughty that disengaged people from the traditional Christmas image,” says the creator of Barcelona. Thus under the concept, ‘Think Pink’, which is also the message written as graffiti on the wall of the shop window, “life is painted pink to make it more beautiful and pleasant,” explains Juan Pedro López.  The mannequin is also pink, as are the different fabrics that wrap and decorate it, and the painting utensils that accompany it. Neither is the traditional Nativity scene as a religious representation of Christmas missing in the shop window.

Juan Pedro López: “You have to paint life in pink to make it more pleasant

The colour of romanticism is accompanied by some shades of gold expressed with several strategically placed garlands and purpurins that give it that sophisticated air which is associated with the end-of-year celebrations and which perfectly express the designer’s meticulous spirit. It is a chromatic expression of love in a time of tensions that invites us to tease out the most fraternal side of people. “We are going to reduce that climate with a touch of pink,” he concludes.

Currently Juan Pedro López combines his work as a designer for other brands and as a teacher with that of a stylist. It is a task that he is also passionate about and where he can show other facets that connect fashion with art. Soon we will be introducing his new projects to you in a more complete interview.

The showcase will be in Gratacós during the Christmas holidays. Come and visit us to discover all the details!

Pop up Modern Tailoring arrives in Gratacós

We continue to pop up with more imaginative stores sharing good news: our store next week will host the unconventional pop up Sastreria Moderna. This is an initiative inspired by the slow fashion movement that will take place from 18 to 20 May in our store, where customers can interact directly with the designer and squeeze the most out of this relationship. The journalist Laia Beltran, organizer of the event, relies on Gratacós to carry out this ephemeral event. “Gratacós always encourages initiatives by independent designers and we love that. In addition, it is a well located working area, very attractive, with a shop-window that faces the street and an enthusiastic team. What more could you ask for?”.

“Gratacós always encourages initiatives by independent designers and we love that”

Sastreria Moderna advocates a sustainable, personalized and “low-simmering”fashion that is more rewarding, both for the maker and for the wearer. That is the value of the initiative where the clients can try out the clothing of the invited designer and order it on the spot. “Here the client does not try on a garment, pay for it and take it home inside a bag. Here she tries it on and if she likes it she orders it, with the option of making changes in colour and fabrics. That’s why we call it a non-conventional pop up, “says Laia Beltran. Thus, in a couple of weeks, the garment is made and delivered to the customer with the idea of promoting production on demand and avoiding stocks. In this third edition the possibilities of choosing fabric multiply, given that Gratacós will offer a wide range of possibilities to clients.

The designer EvaHumo as special guest

In the third edition, Sastreria Moderna EvaHumo  invited the designer to present in public ‘Jazz’, her new collection. It is an elegant and sensual creation inspired by the twenties, by a woman who dances and surrenders herself without thinking that everything can end at any time. Dresses, blouses and light skirts in powdered colours and with an exciting set of textures. The designer’s more radical side will also be revealed with a selection of unique garments intentionally made for the event where intense colours, prints and handmade finishes predominate. In the presentation of the collection, clients will be able to try on the garments and order them with the fabric suggested by the designer or with any other fabric from Gratacós where we will take the opportunity to advise on the most appropriate choice.

Other Companies Confirmed

Sastreria Moderna will again have the support of several design brands that will put on sale their latest collections. These complements and accessories companies share the same spirit of the initiative in that they go for good design and local production. Thus this edition will feature the minimalist jewelry of Sew a Song and the most exuberant creations of Becker & Co, inspired by the most varied flora and fauna. The leather accessories of Encuire by the designer Eva Estévez will also be present, as will duffle bags - the classic cylindrical bags with sailcloth handles by Equipaje BCN. Finally,in footwear Dorotea’s marvellous sandals are a must. They are made by hand in Menorca with quality leather.

“Here the client tries on tests a garment and, if she likes it, she orders it, with the option of making modifications in colour and fabrics”

Apart from design, Sastrería Moderna also offers the possibility of having a good time among friends. “It’s a good excuse to meet up with old friends, with clients or meet new people. We like to chat with them, invite them to a beer and explain the work of each designer, ” Laia declares.

Sastreria Moderna has the support of Gratacós, the architectural studio and showroom Materia Terricola and Moritz beers.

We ‘re waiting for you!
